The last component, 2014

As you have to press the button to operate the product, I think a user can be regarded as one of the components. Amongst the components, users are the very last parts that complete the composition of the product. In this product, I tried to show the role of connection between my body and the sculpture. I chose a vacuum cleaner that is commonly used in household for this. When I disassembled the vacuum cleaner, there were many parts that I did not expect it to have. But I knew those parts are also have important roles in the vacuum cleaner. Products can only operate when every part are functioning flawlessly. When I came home after playing in the playground when I was young, there were sands in my pocket and I used the vacuum cleaner to clean them. By using this experience, I have done the performance, Unseen, 2014, that finding hidden parts from the sands by using vacuum cleaner brush. The last component, 2014 is a sculpture that is made out of the parts that I got from the disassembled vacuum cleaner. To support this sculpture, my leg is essential. People use their legs to travel. A vacuum cleaner also has wheels for its mobility to make it easy to use. This sculpture will fall down if my leg is not supporting it. I tried to express that a user can function as a component of the product through this work.
